This year (2024) is the first year for the implementation of a majority of the Proposal 2022-2 election law changes, and there are many changes.
Early Voting for State and Federal Elections
Fenton Township mailed post cards with the Public Notice on the establishment of early voting site and dates and times in January 2024. The image of this post card is included above along with the PDF version below in the supporting documents section.
Permanent Absentee Ballot Application List
The Permanent Absentee Ballot Application List, is which has been in practice since the passage of no reason absentee voting several years ago, is for those registered voters that wanted an application for an absentee ballot mailed to them for each election in which they were eligible.
In January 2024 Fenton Township mailed the application for the entire year to registered voter on this list. The absent voter application had the options for the February Presidential Primary Election along with a selection for which ballot style voters wanted for that election, May 2024 Special Election (Fenton Township did not have an election in May as no local issues were submitted for a May election), August Statewide Primary Election, and the November General Election. Additionally, there was a check box on this application to change over to the new Permanent Absentee Ballot List.
Permanent Absentee Ballot List
Registered voters that had already changed to the Permanent Absentee Ballot List were mailed a form in January 2024 to select which style of a presidential primary ballot they would like.
The options on the form are Democratic Party Presidential Primary Ballot, Republican Party Presidential Primary Ballot, or Local Only Ballot. This selection does not tie the voter to a party, it just selects which ballot style the voter wants for the closed Michigan Presidential Primary Election. Additionally, Fenton Township does not have a local election (i.e., school board) taking place on February 27, 2024; therefore, if as a voter you select local only you will not receive a February 2024 ballot.
This list does not send applications for absentee ballots. It will only send ballot selection forms for primary elections that have different ballot styles for parties and/or local only options; other wise voters on this list will automatically receive a ballot in the mail for elections for which they are eligible.
